Shazam Trailer Contains No Footage of Music Identification
The power to correctly identify songs is seemingly not present in DC’s upcoming Superhero movie
The Comic-con trailer for Shazam has many on the internet talking. A big talking point has been the change in tone that the film represents for the newly branded “Worlds of DC”. However, one element from the trailer that has been largely ignored is the fact that the film appears to make no mention of Shazam’s ability to correctly identify any song that is currently playing.
This seems to be an odd choice from the creative team, as its one of the most well-known aspects of the character. When people think “Shazam”, they think, “identifies the name of a song that is currently playing”, and yet the film appears to ignore this.
We do see the character using several other superpowers in the trailer, including electrical powers, super strength, invulnerability, and the beginnings of flight. However, if I wanted to know what the name of the song currently playing is, then it seems as if Zachary Levi’s version of the character would not be able to help me.
We approached director David F. Sandberg for comment on this issue, he responded with the statement that we were thinking of the popular mobile app, and not the superhero character. This flatly ridiculous reply has been quickly ignored.
Take a look at the trailer below, and see if you can spot anything that may hint at Shazam’s most famous superpower.
